I tried Smashburger for the first time. The burger was so thin that all I tasted was the bun. Not a good value for the price. Also the trash bins inside the restaurant were overflowing and the outside tables were not being cleaned. Elevation Burger is so much better.

Good burger place; can get pretty busy on a Sunday night with parents and their kids but the line moves fast and you get your food quickly too. Service is consistent and good. Shakes are a great size! The sweet potato side is really tiny compared to the smashfries.

Smashburger is pretty good, very fresh ingredients. The burgers are a good size - we had an avocado club burger and regular smashburger - but the thing that stood out was not the burgers but the sides. The smash fries with rosemary and garlic and sweet potato fries were excellent. They had a lot of other unorthodox choices as well. Without the interesting sides, I would not recommend Smashburger over, say, Elevation Burger or Five Guys depending on what you like on your burger and it is definitely not at the level of a Ray's.

Wow. Online ordering was not up yet so I called to order lunch for the office. About 5 meals. I was told they don't take phone orders. I explained that the online order was not working and the girl seemed confused and repeated they don't take phone orders. I said never mind and hung up. I was amazed that that happened and called back to speak with a manager who was more than happy to explain that they don't take phone orders and losing my business was no big deal. I mean come on, how hard is it to take a phone order? We took our business and $$$$ somewhere else.

Closer to home, newly established, awesome people. I'm gonna be here more often! I love smash burger, and so do my friends. We used to be stuck between five guys and red robin (sometimes fuddruckers) but this place takes the cake. The staff they hired are super friendly as well. Due to the proximity, It's a no brainier. Also, their milkshakes are amazing too.

Great food. We got there at a very busy time, but the line to order moved quickly, and we were astounded at how quickly our food came. Despite the crowds, we had no problem parking or finding a table. It's an attractive room, although the noise level was rather high. I had a "create your own" burger. The grilled onions were cooked perfectly, without burning, and the egg roll was wonderful. The burger itself was quite good, although the special Smashsauce didn't catch my fancy. Nice and juicy -- I needed lots of napkins, as I would expect for any self-respecting burger. My wife enjoyed her harvest salad -- good greens, good balsamic dressing, although the tomato slices were typically winter anemic. We enjoyed the flavorful smashfries; the veggie frites were decent, although I enjoyed the green beans but not the carrots.. My vanilla tasted great, and I appreciated the option of whipped cream on top, but I would have liked it much thicker. (It seems that I'm always wanting them thicker!) All the staff are cheerful, enthusiastic, and helpful. Two enthusiastic thumbs up; we'll definitely be back.

Didn't really think all that much of it. The burgers are on the thin side and nothing special. I liked the basic fries. They were thin and crispy. I did not try the olive oil and garlic fries. I think 5 guys burgers are much better and satisfying. I don't think I'll return.

Maybe it was a slow night but the staff is TOO friendly -- give me a break! I think every one who worked there stopped at our table to see if things were OK. Yes, we wanted to talk & since the place was not busy & there were ample empty tables, we stayed about 30 minutes after finishing our meal. Maybe they were just bored or we looked like damsels in distress but enough with the pleasantries! The interior is completely antiseptic so it's obvious no one comes here for the décor! I saw one photo of a DC monument. To corporate - call me so we can find you some great photos of the area. Falls Church has a history that could be reflected on the walls instead of company signage. Trust me, we know the name of the place. OK - now to the food! The Capital burger -- good - perhaps even very good. Will be back & try other combinations but so far, I'm not overwhelmed. I recommend the sweet potato fries but they could use less salt or the coating, whatever... The Smashburger fries are forgettable. Sounds good on the menu but are so thin they get hard when they cool & that's bad news for carry-out. As for parking -- not a big deal & plenty of it. Just relax & be observant & you'll figure it all out.

I think the reason why last's visit here made me write a review is because I LOVE this place and didn't want the people who went there "first time" to stop going there because of this day..... Let me start off by saying that ever since I been going to this place with my boyfriend everything is great! the people working there are so friendly, GREAT service, matter fact every time I go there they make me feel like if am home, with family, friends. this past Thursday I went to celebrate my friend's birthday. As soon as I walked in I felt the tension between the cashier and the rest of the people ordering there. I got in line and when it was my turn, the person when off by saying "what do you want?".... I was soooooo surprised because the past visits everyone has been so friendly"HI,HOW ARE YOU,welcome to Smash burger".. it got so awkward to the point that when my boyfriend was ordering the manager came and ask her to go to the back.. Now I wont rate the restaurant based on that day because that would be unfair to the rest of the staff. its just a comment so hey we all have bad days,to the point where we want to slap someone but its about learning how to fake a smile and its also good for the heart as well :D. BUT I honestly recommend this place to EVERYONE. the food is delicious and they give me so manyyy pickles haha.

I officially quit this location. I have 28 check ins on yelp. They have gotten my order wrong... NOT EVEN EXAGGERATING... probably about 20 times out of those 28. I don't know if they have an inability to read the tickets, or if they just have no idea how to make their menu items. This last visit the girl expediting asked me what dressing I would like. I purposefully said "the one that comes with it" and she looked at me with lost sad eyes. I got my salad back to work and in their world "no guac" actually means "no bacon" How dare you Smashburger! You can take away my guac, but don't ever take away my bacon. Goodbye forever (said in dramatic fashion)

Sad story: my burger was not good. I've been here before when they were the new kids on the block. I specifically remember their spiel about how they were different and better than other joints. They said it was because they smash their burgers in a special way to keep the juices in during the cooking process. But my burger was not juicy or tasty or memorable. I won't be back.

It's not a horrible burger but I wouldn't come here again. The burger is very greasy and the fries are pretty bad too. If you're near Five Guys, you're going to get a much better burger and fries.

Mehhh. It was an ok burger. I walked in at 5:45pm on a weeknight and the place was empty. The floors were sticky as I walked across them and I used the restroom first which was dirty. I ordered the BBQ bacon cheddar burger and added lettuce, jalapeño and grilled onion. The gentleman taking my order was very friendly. My burger came out a few minutes later and was alright. The 2 slices of bacon had some crispy bits and some undercooked parts. The cheese was not melted at all. There were no grilled onions. The crispy onions that came with the burger were basically French's canned fried onions. For almost $10 an ok burger and soda didn't blow me away and won't get me to come back. There is an elevation burger a block away I'll have to try.

I've waited a long while before writing my review of Smashburger in hopes that it would improve the longer they were open. My first experience was within a week of their opening, and it was obvious that they were still working out the kinks. I've been back every few months since then and it's abundantly clear they will never work out the kinks. Instead of dwelling on the past, I'll discuss today's visit. It's on my way to work so I decided to stop in and grab a salad (I know, who goes to a burger joint to get a salad?) and some fried pickles. I placed my to-go order and the lady behind the register seemed rushed but in a really weird way. It's hard to describe. And she kept asking me if I smelled something funny.... About 10 minutes into the wait, I saw my fried pickles put on the pass and then promptly into a paper bag where they got soggy and cold (I'll mention here that they were almost too salty to eat). As I stood there waiting, (about 15 minutes into my wait now), the girl from the register walks over to me and asks "Don't you smell that? It's that guy right there (points to a fellow employee). They should really make him work in the back." Are you kidding me?!? What kind of place is this?!?!?!?!? Finally I'm handed my take out order (20 minutes at this point) and I book it for the door. Halfway there, I realize that my salad dressing was placed face down, without the lid completely closed and was leaking all over the bag. I tried to salvage it but not wanting salad dressing all over my desk at work I decided against my better judgement to ask for a new bag and for the bowl to be wiped off. This took 5 minutes to accomplish. I've now consumed my almost inedible fried pickles and my 5 bites worth of salad and decided that I will not be giving this Smashburger location another try. I don't know if it's this particular location that can't get their crap together of if it is a corporate fail overall. Either way, I bid you farewell Smashburger.

Service is not great, they usually get our order wrong, it's not complicated, (grilled cheese & veggie frites), the place itself isn't the cleanest, the bathroom is usually pretty gross, but my kids love their grilled cheese & their burgers are pretty good. Thy just need some help on customer service & cleanliness!!!

  • Amanda L.

Wow. What a 180!! The new management and staff have made a palpable difference in every aspect of our visit. Friendly, patient with a complicated salad order that would make Sally ( of Harry and Sally) roll her eyes, and fast. Oh, and the food is good too. How impressed were we? We had to download the dang Yelp app before we left the joint.

Excellent food and customer service. I had a make your own burger. They initially forgot the goat cheese I ordered but quickly came out with it and a voucher for next time. Excellent gluten free bun and my wife had the burger on a salad. Separate fryer and great food options. My best fast food experience.

So disappointed in the hype surrounding Smashburger--aka fast casual burger joint number 74--but delicious premium ice cream milkshakes made from hand-dipped Haagan Dazs are worth a stop-in. ***this review is only for the Swiss "truffle" burger experience*** There are so many specialty burger franchises popping up on every corner that it's hard to distinguish one from the other at times, but I HAD to try Smashburger after it was dubbed the best fast casual chain in the country right now. The burger: Smashburger slogans on drink cups and plaques promise juiciness beyond the competition, and my truffle Swiss burger was indeed dripping when the server brought it to my table--but from oil more so than juice. I'm not huge on grease, and the burger was unctuous and too oily for my taste. My love affair with rich, earthy mushrooms is legend, but I found the truffle Swiss burger reminiscent of chopped creminis sautéed in that cheap, synthetic truffle oil with 2-4 dithiapentane--a heady aromatic meant to emulate truffle flavor. Add "truffle" oil to greasy burger and get something that makes even the nicest brioche bun soggy. Even the bitter arugula greens didn't offset this oleaginous mess. Sigh... The shake: I was wallowing in my disappointment over the truffle Swiss burger when my chocolate hand-dipped Hagaan Dazs milkshake arrived along with the leftovers in a separate stainless cylinder. Instant smile! Rich, creamy, delicious! This home run assuaged my suffering and left me content to munch my bf's fries and lick my proverbial wounds (and the milkshake spoon!) from the let down of the pinguid, artificial truffle burger:-( The verdict: Although other burgers might be worth a trip to Smashburger, the truffle Swiss variety was a colossal let-down. With other fast, casual gourmet choices like Ray's Hellburger, BGR, Kraze, Elevation, Orange and Black, and Thunderburger, Smashbox is very low on my list of fresh, prime burger joints in the DMV.

The only thing that brings the rating down is the customer service of this restaurant. I get my order wrong all the time at this place and I always get an attitude from the staff when asking to correct it when they made the mistake. The food is delicious!!!!!! I don't think I'all be back based on the service.

The service at this place is so spotty. This must be the place where high school dropouts find their first job.

Great burgers, awesome fries, super friendly staff. My favorite is the avocado club black bean burger. Freshest take on gourmet burger, and available with chicken, too. Really convenient to my kid's high school. Often stops by after school or after working out (gasp!) next door at Five Rings Fitness.

I'm going to go with 3-1/2 stars, so this rounds up to 4. I got the spicy jalapeño Baja chicken sandwich, which was excellent. Great flavor and spice to it. Chicken not overcooked. My lunch companion got the bacon cheeseburger, which she said was also good. But we both agreed the fries left something to be desired. Way too short and thin. I would not get those again. The restaurant itself is new, modern looking and clean. It's definitely a step up from your average McDonald's. However, it's pretty expensive. Even with a $5 off coupon, it was around $15 for two regular sandwiches and two regular orders of fries. No drinks. Pretty steep.

I normally like smashburger but today's meal was a disaster. Ordered 4 burgers for the family, service was slow and the burgers were burnt. Sent them back and will wait to see how they are when they come back. The reordered burgers came back -- 3 pretty quickly but the fourth took 15 minutes longer for some reason. Good news, the burgers were over cooked but not burned. Haystack onions were good. Milkshakes were amazing -- especially the vanilla. We'll likely try this place again but if quality and service doesn't pick up, it probably won't be around for long. I'm pulled for them.

Burgers may be good but workers here need to be reminded of proper hygiene and health practices. Workers, please do not rub your face with your gloved hand or stick your hand under your shirt to rub your back. That's just f'n gross. Also, pull your pants up.

  • Yan W.

This place was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. When I first ordered, the cashier was really rude and tried to rush my order even though no one else are in the restaurant. I felt like she just wanted to get the order over with so she could do something she felt was better than her job. I ordered the smashburger and fries. All and all the food was weird. For some reason the burger tasted sweet and the fries were just "herbally" in a bad way. However, the person who actually gave me my food was a ball of sunshine... On one hand, i like burgers, but i don't like their burgers. I love fries, but I don't like their fries. Some staff are nice, and some aren't. I don't want to take anymore chances and will probably frequent another burger joint... like the one a block over...

We had a bad experience in May 2014 and did not return until last night. WHY DEAR GOD did we think that this location had improved? IT IS AS BAD AS EVER. All I wanted was a grilled chicken sandwhich and they WERE OUT OF CHICKEN. Amazing. So we ordered chrispy chicken instead. They were out of Coke Zero. And the service was horrible. Just horrible. You want to know how bad this location is? I was given "free side" coupons on my next visit and I tried to give them away on my local community email list. NO ONE wanted them. Free food. That is how bad this location is.

  • Cyndy K.

Cyndy's Bottom Line: 3.5 stars for a solid burger and crispy delicious French fries! Stopped here because the other place was crowded. I thought the price point was a bit high and the sodium. This is what I ate: 1. CLASSIC SMASH: American cheese, SMASH SAUCE, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion on an egg bun. The burger is built well and easy to eat. The burger is on the saltier side - good for sodium lovers with crispy edges. They even give you a calorie count, why? 2. The fries are crunchy, crispy, salty and yummy if you like your fries thin, matchbox type.

Place is always dirty. There is always a line. Half the staff is out back smoking a cig or chatting and chilling. Orders come out incorrect right and left. They take FOREVER on your order and then you wait around just to have them tell you they are out of something 15 minutes later. Truly a very poorly run establishment with employees who don't value nor care about their job and it shows. Don't go here, Elevation burger is 100 yards up the street they have organic beef, friendly staff members, and awarded winning burgers!

I was surprisingly impressed with this place! Huge, juicy, delicious burgers and they offer veggie frites and sweet potato fries on the side!? SOLD. Came in for dinner last week with the boyfriend and we spent a good few minutes perusing the menu. I went for the truffle mushroom swiss classic with arugula and it was absolutely delicious. A gourmet burger at it's best. I'm also a sucker for anything truffle, so just because this place offers such a thing on their menu - they get 5 stars from me. When you come in, it's a bit confusing after you order. You place your order then you're given a number but you're unsure if you stand there or what. Well, we just sat down and eventually our order was brought to us. So, it's a bit confusing because you can't tell if this place is trying to be sit-down/half-ass fast food or WHAT... but no worries - they will bring your food out to you if you choose to dine in. Placing our order was easy and the cashier was friendly and nice and told us that they were out of certain veggies, so he offered us a substitute side order of green beans and they were delicious! The burgers are huge, you will definitely be full and the patties are juicy, thick, and super tasty. The buns are also yummy. You can choose between small, regular, or big and believe me, big is BIG. I don't think I'd come back and dine there again, but I would get the truffle burger and sweet potato fries to-go. Try them out!

I had never been to a Smashburger (or heard of it) until we moved to NoVA! Boy we were missing out! We had the pleasure of our first trip for a Yelp event for the Grand Opening. The staff was courteous, on point, the food was delicious, and the milk shakes were amazing!!! Now I know that for special events, things can be not the norm... So we went back the week after opening. We got a big BBQ, Onion Strings & Cheddar burger, an Avocado Grilled Chicken Sandwich, a Spicy Baja burger, smash fries & sweet potato fries... It was out before we got our drinks, fresh, steaming, and made just how we ordered it (we had made some changes). We finished off with the limited time only Salted Caramel milkshake... To share... Our son didn't like it... So the server that was taking care of us asked what flavor he wanted, and brought him his own. Yes, the parking lot flows the wrong way... And some of the new people need to learn the register... And YES! It's busy!!! But it's fast & affordable burgers & they have healthy options too!!! BRAVO!!

I don't know what happened to this location in the last couple of month. French fries were cold and old. had to ask for another order. Ketchup on our table and the three surrounding tables were empty. one young lady on the staff seemed to be doing most of the front of the house work. I had been to this location on other occasions and there were none of these issues. change of management or change of kitchen staff? I don't know but folks it's burgers and fries and unless you just don't care this is hard to mess up!

Why is it called "smashburger"? These burgers start out with 100% Certified Angus beef that are handmade and smashed fresh into patties. And you can tell the difference in quality with each juicy bite. These burgers are definitely more seasoned and can come with dozens of different sauces and toppings compared to that ooother burger joint down the street (*ahemelevation). My favorite thing about this place is the variety of sides that they offer. It's not just your ordinary burger and fries joint. You have the option to take it up a notch and upgrade your fries to smash fries which are seasoned with rosemary, olive oil, and garlic. There's also haystack onions which thinly sliced french fried--a touch salty but the absolute perfect addition to any burger or meal. My favorite is the veggie frites which are carrot sticks and green beans flash fried that come with a side of ranch dressing. The veggie frites are healthy-ish and totally balance out ordering the Big burger, right? Yes. Just say yes. There's also sweet potato fries or a side salad. Smashburger is all about options for everyone. I saw that there are options on the Kids Menu for a hot dog or chicken strips if your kids aren't in the mood for a burger when you are! Subtract a star because the amount of smash sauce and ketchup on my Classic burger was totally overdoing it. Also, I had to wait for my dipping sauces since they forgot about them. Try something new and get a side of truffle mayo--this with the smash fries is a great flavor combo. I did go back and try the Avocado Club burger and it was so good...I think I found my new favorite smashburger. Bacon, avocado and ranch dressing on a burger...magic words yesss. Next time, I can't wait to try the BBQ Bacon Cheddar Chicken burger and the Oreo shake!

If you are looking for a hamburger, don't go here. My third time in a row I've been sorely disappointed. This time, we didn't even eat because the "system" was down. I guess there isn't any way to let the kitchen know to make two burgers and some fries? Another time they were out of buns and fries. Elevation Burger is so close if you are looking to satisfy your burger craving in Falls Church.

So my boys and I have passed this restaurant quite a few times and we finally decided to stop last week. And I'm glad we did. The place is clean, friendly, and downright tasty. I had the classic, my youngest the kids meal (which is not tiny like other places) and our friend had the grilled chicken salad. All were excellent. The burger tastes like steak, the fries are shoestring size and crispy, and my friend loved the salad. Plus, it was served in a really cool bowl. Don't expect plastic or disposable plates here. Burgers and fries are served in a cool wire basket and the salads in a concave bowl. Price wise it is like Five Guys and once you order, the food is brought to your table. Don't let that fool you, the service is super quick. I've been there twice now and can say the only complaint I have is that unless you are sitting by a window it can be a bit dim inside. Imagine walking into a Starbucks that served burgers, that is what you can expect ambiance wise. I will indeed be back.

Thick... Juicy... Tasty... These are words that most restaurants use when trying to describe their burgers. I applaud Smashburger for standing up to their ideals and taking their flagship product in an entirely different direction. Unfortunately, that direction is thin, greasy, and way too salty. I understand the "thin" is intentional. There is no excuse for the rest of it. I ordered the Classic Bacon Cheeseburger. That included three pieces of bacon, actually one piece of bacon cut into three sections and a square of something between American Cheese Food and Velveeta. As for the rest of our meal, the fries were perhaps the best part. They were thin, crispy, and only a bit too salty. The Haystack Onions were mostly fried "something" with a hint of onion and a lot of salt. My daughter's hot dog was surprising in that it was so bad. I mean, how can you mess up a hot dog? She took two bites and gave up. I took one and understood why. To my mind, going to Smashburger is like spraying your motorcycle seat with Armor All; it seems like a good idea but is never something you'll try a second time. My hope is you will avoid even that first, bad experience.

The one star is for the rude customer service. I was excited to try Smashburger. I have heard rave reviews about this chain. So, I stopped in for dinner recently, 40 minutes before closing. The girl at the register said they had already cleaned the kitchen for the night but if I reeeaaalllyy wanted to order, they would open back up (lots of attitude). It looked like it had been a slow night and whoever was the shift leader decided they would close early. I checked the times on the door on my way out, at that point it was 35 minutes before closing. I won't be trying Smashburger from this location.

  • Amanda L.

Good food, but when the cashier rolls her eyes at you upon entering at 9:30 on a Saturday night **30 minutes before closing *** that doesn't quite make for the best experience. When my husband asked for a milkshake, she just gestured to the "out of order" sign she'd just placed on the just-cleaned machine. Miraculously, the machine was fixed the next day -- much earlier in the day. The daytime crew on the second visit was better, but c'mon, we've all worked at restaurants on the weekend, and wanted to roll our eyes at customers who come in late -- but we don't. And we shouldn't, especially when there's 30 minutes till closing. If you don't want to re-mop the floors, don't mop em till closing.

Fries: delicious Burger: quite good Sauce: ok Milkshakes: would love to tell you, but the day I visited the ice cream was "too frozen to make shakes" Soda station: average Price: a bit high for what you get consistency: Consistent

The milkshake came on time and was fairly decent. The rest was a disaster. Family ordered 4 burgers, fries and onion haystacks. Took 15 minutes to order and after $48 bill, took 30 minutes for food to be delivered. No haystacks because all of sudden "we're out." Actually assuming it was a lie and they just forgot. Burger was "smashed" into a brick of disgusting wasted beef. Had a good experience recently here, but this was the last straw. Back to Elevation Burger! Staff seemed very overworked and had attitudes about everything.

Compared to other Smashburgers in the area, I think that this location still has a few growing pains to work out. Which kinda blows, because the location is soooo convenient! The burgers are still fabulouso (truffle mushroom swiss, add lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle please!) but the food can be slow, slow, slow to come out, and I have had my order wrong on multiple occasions. I think that the issues with service will likely work themselves out the longer that they're here, since it is still a relatively new location, and in the meantime I'm sure that they won't be hurting for business. Of note, I am convinced that it's a better value to dine in at Smashburger than to get food to go, just because I seriously think you get like twice as much in your side dishes when you eat in house. It may just be a theory right now, but if there's even the slightest possibility for me to get extra fried pickles... well, you'll know where to find me.

I don't quite follow the hype around Smashburger. Maybe it's this particular location but the burger was mediocre at best, nothing special. The service was pretty quick and efficient but the food did not match up to the service. The bun was somewhat stale and the patty underwhelming - the fries did make up for it a bit as they were decent. While I don't think this place is "A-OK", I didn't mind giving it 3 stars. That said, I left the place wishing that I had gone to another burger joint, and I haven't been compelled to return when I pass by the area. I'm open to trying it out again down the road but no thanks for now. Maybe I'll return when the stars align and after I've struck out at other places.

This review really should be split in two- the food is actually pretty good. I would say it is one of the better tasting burgers of the glut of fast casual burger places in DC. I Probably like only Rays and good stuff better. However what really brings the rating down for me is everything else about the place. I've tried coming a number of times hoping I just caught them on a bad day but no luck. The counter staff is sullen and semi-rude. They also are extremely slow in their service, you end up waiting quite a while for your burger. The interior of the place is nice and new but always very noisy and not kept clean by the staff. I hope these things improve and I will change my rating

7PM on a Friday night. 15 people in line, and the cashier is making milkshakes. Not a good plan. Bathroom and patio look like they haven't been touched since lunch. Will not return. So Slow. Fast food that isn't.

My first experience with Smashburger was at the CMYE, where they spoiled us rotten, so I might be a bit biased. However, I've been back twice since then and have had great experiences. Everything I've tried so far has been super flavorful. I like how they have pre-designed burgers to choose from but you can always customize your burger or create your own from scratch. They bring your order out to your table if you're dining in--always a plus. I now live in walking distance to TWO yummy burger places and am going to have a hard time choosing now. #firstworldproblems

Honest be told, the burger wasn't what I expected. yes it was freshly made but it seemed soggy , I felt like i tasted the bun more than the meat it self. I ordered the regular size and my sister wen for the larger size which seemed to be the same as mine. My sister ordered the smash fries and they were horrible, It tasted like regular fries with EXTRA EXTRA seasoning salt. Maybe we just went on a wrong date. The staff are very unprofessional. one of them was having lunch and the two young ladies kept leaving the front and going towards the staff that was on break and eating his food off and chit chatting. Like Chow said, they need to be reminded of proper hygiene. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT when customer ordered her food and sat down waiting to get her order when one of the young ladies (She has dreadlocks) brought her the order, she was wearing jacket so she was getting ready to step one and in one hand she was holding her single cigarette . I was truly wowed by that.

I finally got to go here after a late night class. We walked in 10 minutes before closing but they were still happy and cheery to see us. I got the Capital burger, which is their special for the DC area. It has grilled onions, swiss cheese, baby arugula, and bacon on a brioche bun. Oh my goodness, it was amazing! Easily one of the best burgers I have ever had under $6! You can get a larger sized burger for $6.99, but the regular "smash" filled me up. I was so hungry and scarfed down my burger so fast I don't even remember what the BF got! Whoops! Buuuut I do remember that we got the smash fries - toasted with rosemary, olive oil and garlic. They were delish. Smashburger also has chicken and veggie black bean burgers, along with large salads and shakes to balance out your meal. I will definitely be returning to Smashburger ASAP!

Terrible food, terrible staff. I got there and the kitchen computer goes down and so their solution is just to stop all ordering and let a giant line back up. You couldn't have taken orders by hand? Register still works idiots. Then after the reset the system, they end up taking forever and then giving me the wrong order. Worthless. Dont order the crispy chicken. It doesn't even look like real chicken. It's got that same meat substitute texture that you find in McDonalds chicken nuggets.

Alrighty... my first experience at a Smashburger was for the Yelp event and I loved it. My family went back and again, we were treated to some good service and awesome food. Our food came out very, very quickly and the only problem we had was with my sons sandwich. They accidentally made him an avocado club burger instead of chicken sandwich. They took it right back and after about five minutes or so he had his sandwich. We also ordered sides of sweet potato fries that were just awesome. We paired them with the spicy chipotle sauce and also ordered some smash fries. Everything tasted fresh, hot and delicious. The night was finished off with the salted caramel shake which is probably my favorite shake ever and an Oreo shake which if you like cookies and cream, what's not to like?!?! I have sampled the black bean burger and enjoyed it, the Capitol burger, Mushroom Truffle, Bacon BBQ & cheddar, Spicy Baja, the avocado chicken club... all delicious. All the sides, delicious!

I had the Baja Grilled Chicken and it was everything I hoped for. The GF had the Crispy Classic. Hers was dry, lacking sufficient mayo. You add catsup and mustard at the table, but no mayo. No packets at the drink station, but there is hot sauce. The tea was adequate. Regular fries are the thinnest I have ever seen. The Team Leader at the register is lost. It was my first time and I think, her first day. Worth another try. We will not be getting the Crispy Chicken again.

Gosh this place is so ridiculously good...it is truly a guilty pleasure! I stopped by with a coworker for lunch and enjoyed a cheeseburger and fries. You need to work out a little bit longer, but it sure is worth it! Busy location and friendly staff too.

This was my fave burger joint but had two bad experiences. Waaaaaaay overcooked and burned burgers. Fries are good. I guess I'll give them one more try but hope I don't regret it.

Sitting here with a fresh, hot and delicious bacon cheeseburger, celebrating my birthday with my kids. I come here pretty often because I'm a cheeseburger junkie, and their burgers are quite good. I love the veggie frites and their sated caramel shakes. The staff is always friendly, but today Sabrina and Lili went above and beyond with my kids. They were attentive as they placed their order and gave them coloring books and crayons to busy them during our wait--although our food was ready really fast! Thanks for making my birthday special, ladies!! We will most certainly be back.

Super slow service. Several people walked out while I was waiting for my food. Great sweet potato fries though.

Place is clean. The workers are very friendly and helpful. The burger - the meat patty itself - is of a good quality, and the toppings are very good, but the burgers are pretty greasy. They drip. And drip. And drip. I like a juicy burger, but geeze. This place is above average, but with all the burger craze going on in the metro area, I am looking for a less grease-dripping burger. Update: a little over a year later I went back - I was driving by and hungry and thought I would put up with a grease-dripping burger to shut my stomach up. The service was still friendly and competent but the burger did not drip at all. Very nice. Still a juicy tasty burger, but no drip. I salute that burger, and foresee a future visit as a result.

Last visit to smashburger was terrible. Burnt burgers, completely incorrect toppings, and the soggiest fries imaginable. The staff clearly demonstrated their lack of interest in providing any type of customer service beyond the minimum effort. The person taking orders seemed annoyed that customers were coming in to bother her.

New place not far from home - I like the idea but the staff don't seem overly friendly and the fries are just okay. One tip - get the smash chicken (I think it's actually better than the burgers).

I attempted to place an order on-line. After making all of my selections, I was directed to the payment page. I had planned to pay with two $25 gift cards. The system would only acknowledge one gift card which left me with a balance of $14'ish. I made several attempts to use the 2nd gift card with no success so I gave up and paid the balance with my Visa card and pushed next/place order to proceed. I then received a message advising me the store was offline and to try again later or call the store. I waited a few moments and tried again and received the same message so I called the store. Initially the store was reluctant to take my order over the phone and advised me they had recently received an on-line order so they felt they were not off line. I asked if I could just place the order now since I already had them on the phone. After several minutes of delay, I was patched through to a cashier who seemed to be annoyed, but none the less the order was FINALLY placed so I clicked on the "Cancel Order" button for my online order. We went to the store to pick up the order and when we attempted to pay with the gift cards, one showed a zero balance. Apparently, even though the order was cancelled online, the funds had still been removed. The store manager came over and I had to explain the entire situation with her but this is when things turned for the better. She refunded the $25 back to my card and then we used it to pay the remainder of the bill. She advised me she had dealt with this same scenario a few times so she understood my frustration. What should have been an easy in/out visit turned in to a 15 minute store visit fiasco which rendered our food kind of cold and mushy. Mind you, at this point, I could have made hamburgers at home and saved the time & money:( I like Smashburger usually, this was just an odd experience but I wanted to share it with all so others could avoid the on-line issues.

Delicious fast food. We tried the avocado club burger and a milk shake. Fresh ingredients and delicious. The staff were helpful and nice. The poor rating is because the restaurant was dirty: trash overflowing, filthy floors and the exposed drain on the floor below the soda machine was filled with debris. Attention to cleanliness and I'd five it 4 stars.

  • Pat K.

I love smash burger, but I am not too fond about this branch. The staff was rude and it seems like they rushed my group's orders, which I do not understand because it was 9 pm and the restaurant was not busy. The cheese on 2/6 of our burgers were not even melted because they placed the vegetables between the cheese and the burger.. The fries were bathing in oil, which is not usually the case at the Fairfax location. Overall, not too bad. Maybe they were training new employees?

  • Joanne S.

When the restaurant first opened up, I gave it rave reviews for quality and enthusiasm. Now, everything has suffered...they usually mess up the order in some way (check your take out order before you leave!) or don't have all of the (already limited) flavors of ice cream for their shakes. They also seem to run out of basics--the last couple times I've been there, they ran out of regular fries as well as hotdog buns...and when they said they'd substitute the hotdog buns with something else (we assumed a nicer burger bun), they busted out some random sandwich bread.

I've been to this location many times. Almost every time service is painfully slow. Many orders have had something missing or wrong...ordered chicken sandwiches to-go once, and got home to find out they gave us burgers instead. They make a really good burger and Smash Fries are awesome, but the management of this location needs some serious improvement.

We have had a few friends tell us how great this place was so when we finally found one we had to stop in. Outside it was ok. The parking is really weird because there is a gym right next to it. Now On to the food review that's what's important. After we ordering we turned the corner to see that the tables and floors were gross. Like around the soda machine it wasn't funny. There were no lids -trash from straws etc. the outside wasn't much better either. They bought our meals out one at a time not all together so it made for an odd lunch. The burgers had a sweet taste to them and if you've ever had food poisoning it makes you nervous. We won't be back. Well not to this one.

My burger was just "ok." I think they're trying to hard on the gourmet burger end and not able to execute properly. The meat isn't anything special and it's not advertised as grass fed so I'm not interested in coming back; especially when Elevation Burger is right next door. The fries mirrored McDonald's. Why is everyone going for the frozen fries these days? So sad.

  • Caroline T.

Don't waste your time. The burgers are soggy, the onions strings are salty and the fries are greasy.

Smash fries at this place are amazing. Really good. Very light seasoning unlike good stuff eatery. Who drench their fries in rosemary. I had the new goat cheese spinach chicken sandwich. It was really good. Thin piece of chicken nicely prepared with onion, spinach, goat cheese and tomato. Definitely recommend it.

  • Jeromy F.

There are two types of burger joints--those who trust their meat enough to cook it to order, and everyone else. Smashburger does not cook to order. Still, the toppings list looked tempting and I wanted to try something new, so I ordered an "Avocado Club"--a burger with lettuce/tomatoe/avocado/bacon/ranch. I wish I could tell you the burger was tasty, hot and juicy. I wish I could tell you that -- but Smashburger is no fairy tale world. Even the fat in the avocado couldn't stand up to the violence visited upon that poor meat patty when it was smashed onto the griddle and left there to sizzle away its precious juices. How can I justify giving 2 stars to a burger place that serves up dry burgers? The fries. Sweet Lord in heaven, such fries. Fries that taste the way McDonald's used to taste before they lost their collective minds and changed the recipe. Fries the way they fell from heaven to feed Moses in the dessert. But the burger was crappy.

Tried this place for the first time yesterday and I'm glad I did cause this place was banginnn! I ordered the BBQ burger and smash fries and both came out hot and fresh, literally cause my burgers juice was overflowing soon as I bit into it. The smash fries had olive oil and rosemary which was pretty good and different so I applaud them for that. As soon as we finished they told us to leave it there..dope! Ha.This place is giving 5 guys a run for their money. Definitely will be back.

This place is amazing... I had given up hope for burgers in the area after trying elevation burger - which is good, but not great. After all, what burger place is going to move in next door next to a 3 star burger place? ... Smash burger, that's who. And I'm glad they did - the burgers are amazing, the fries are great (especially the sweet potato fries), and the chicken options are super tasty. I agree with every good thing that's been said about SB - and the cons? Well, come on guys - don't phone in your orders. They don't take them. Stop giving 1 star reviews when you haven't even set foot in the building or tasted a burger. You are ridiculous. Like every new shop there are some kinks to work out like the online ordering system. It's up and running now. Stop in, have a great burger/chicken sandwich/veggie burger and rate the food and amazing service instead.

Although this place has recently opened here in Falls Church, I have been about a half dozen times or more. Don't let the word "smash burger" fool you into thinking there are only burgers here. I actually don't eat red meat, so this place serves me well with a spicy black been burger, chicken sandwich or their salads. There is a nice selection of burgers, for the meat eaters and the rosemary garlic fries are heavenly. From a parent stand point, you can't beat the kids meal which includes a burger, fries and small refillable drink for $5.00! It's a steal and the kids love it. The place seats about 50 people at most, but it's okay. The food is very tasty and the staff is the friendliest and most courteous I have encountered in any burger place. Once you pay, you are given a number and a staff member comes to serve you your meal. They also, bus the table once you are finished, it's a very nice touch and as I mentioned the staff is super friendly and very attentive. Sorry Elevation Burger, you just lost a few good customers.

Burgers were served up on (what looked like) melamine plates. I don't have a problem with the type of plates used as much as I have a problem with them not looking completely clean. There appeared to be a layer of residue on the plates that raised some eyebrows upon service. Shakes were served very late into the meal; which turned us into very thirsty patrons. And if you like your mayo with your bun-less burger, be sure to specify you want the mayo on the side (I'm guessing the mayo was omitted from our dish because we ordered burgers sans bread). Too bad for Smashburger from this burger-lover. Would I come back? Not really sure...

Our new favorite burger joint! Way tastier than Elevation Burger where burgers are too greasy. You can order online and pick up in store, and prices are totally reasonable. Fries are great too. My absolute favorite is the BBQ bacon burger they have with haystack onions. (Though cooks- please be sure to add a little more bbq sauce, sometimes it's not quite enough.) The only reasons I'm not giving this place 5 stars is decor. The really promote the gourmet experience, but I really wish they did something with their interior to convince me to stay and eat there. Maybe I'll try eating outside with a beer once the weather gets nicer. I like it! Much better than five guys or elevation.

I have been here a few times and the food is good, but I have had to wait over 20 minutes each time for a simple 2-burger take out order. Not worth it.

  • Jenny M.

I tried the avocado club and it was actually pretty good. I also orders chicken strips and they looked a bit over cooked, just like our fries. I just think that for the price of the food I expected a little more. I would definitely go back an give them another try..... It may have been just the wrong day but I wouldn't order the chicken strips again they are WAY to greasy and nothing about them looked fresh. Over cooked and greasy, NOT fresh!

A little greasy. The fries are awesome when served hot with the rosemary, love em. I need to try the other stuff on the menu but keep coming back for a burger.

Smash & Dash? What a joke! Ordered my food online and still had to wait 20 minutes. No one bothered to greet us when we first arrived. After waiting for 10 minutes or so, I finally asked an employee if we were in the right line for online orders. He said "yes, all these orders right here (pointing at screen) are orders we have to work on." So, I asked if he knew roughly how much longer and he just said, "it'll be a while," and walked away. The entire time we were waiting all the employees were talking about how their manager is no good and how they "can't stand all these customers breathing down my neck." If I wouldn't have already paid for my food, I would've walked out. When I finally did receive my burger, the pattie was broken into three pieces, the toppings were just thrown on there, just very sloppy. If I wanted a sloppy burger, I would've gone to McDonalds and paid $1.50. They got a lot of orders wrong and weren't apologetic. Everyone was very unprofessional, rude and did not know what they were doing. I REFUSE to go there again!

The food we got was good!! Would have been better if it was what we ordered!!! Plus, They were out of shakes which we were really looking forward to trying. My BBQ bacon burger was missing the BBQ and the onion straws. Another order in our group got regular fries instead if smash fries, and another was missing the ranch. The burgers were well seasoned and juicy, egg buns are delicious and fries are perfect. They are new, so, won't hold it against them completely. Will try again and hopefully they get it better next time.

Amazing! I love this place and come here all the time. I really enjoy the food. I prefer this place over the others because they actually have green lettuce and whole wheat buns as an option. The burgers are hot and cooked well. The fries are always tasty and the shakes are so good! The staff is always helpful and friendly. Great place!

This wasn't my first trip to a Smashburger. I go to the one out in Fairfax a lot. This new location in Falls Church is at a sort of busy location with an annoying parking lot, but once you pull in everything is just fine. One of the highlights of this particular location was the outdoor seating, they have a bunch of tables looking into the parking lot. Not a great view, but whatevs. The place was packed with employees. So many just chillen. I guess they are all training. The service was good, they need to figure out the cash register better, but it is pretty new. I love the burgers at this place, so I'll be back. They even have 2 craft beers available for $3.50, and domestic beer for $3.00.

It has been on our list for awhile, but this was my first and last time. The burgers were ok at best. I got the truffle mushroom and Swiss burger. I usually love mushroom and Swiss burgers, but the truffle mayo on here just have it a really weird taste. It also looked really gross on the burger. I got the special fries with the herbs on them. I hate their fries. They are very thin, so they get cold really fast. Elevation Burger is right down the street. Save yourself the time and just go there.

  • Linda R.

OK - so we now have a process in place where the food can be ordered and picked up. Big Yay! Good burgers. The order has been wrong once out of the three times we've gone there (please for the love of all that is holy DO NOT put mustard on my burger) - but overall - yum yum. Not a super fan of the fries, but I do like the sweet potato fries as an option.

Have eaten there twice now and the food is mediocre at best. The burger had no flavor at all and the fries taste like cardboard. I will not be returning.

This was our second time visiting this location. The first time a school fund raiser that had basically closed the restaurant because they ran out of food. This second time was certainly better, but there were still issues. Service was a bit slower than you would expect for a restaurant of this type. The place was very dirty both inside the restaurant and outside on the patio. Too many tables that had not been cleaned up. Outside on he patio there were cigarette butts on the ground. The food may have been okay, but the silverware and plate they brought it on had issues. The person bringing the food out was extremely pleasant / friendly and they did have a lot of variety on their menu. Anyway, possibly they were just having a bad day.....but there are many burger joints options like this in the area, which are a lot cleaner and more organized.

We finally stopped by to check this place out. We had the black bean burger with French fries and the Smashed burger with the Rosemary French fries and both were pretty good! The staff was friendly and the place was clean.

Now, they do have really tasty burgers, fries, and shakes. I know it's only been open for a couple of months, but there hasn't been one time where they didn't mess up my order. It's definitely not the cashiers fault all the time because they mostly acknowledge when I don't want mayo or whatever on my burger. I always get it Togo, so when I get home and open up the packaging I'm always so pissed. I never end up going back to fix the order because the parking is pretty cramped and you can't turn left out of their lot. I do keep coming back for the food, but if the kitchen doesn't pay more attention to the orders I'll have to take my business back to Elevation Burger down the road.

  • Candace C.

I didn't realize this was a chain. Reminds me of a Noodles & Company on the inside. The burgers are delicious! The beef patty is flattened out. It will be easier to get a custom burger because if you want lettuce & tomato on the burgers on the menu, they will just switch to a custom one. They serve it on a tray and a piece of paper. It's environmental but not sure if it will withhold all the juices from the burger and the mess that you make. Plenty of napkins at the table though. Fries are the skinny kind like Shake Shack...not worth it in my opinion. There were only a couple parking spots out front and the location is on the corner of an intersection so getting in and out is a bit of a hassle. Don't try to turn left out of there...

Despite the name, the grilled chicken sandwiches here are actually THE BEST. Everything is made to order, lots of good side options. Staff is great - I get lunch takeout here a lot and Maryovy takes care of customers and crew. Lots of restaurants in the area, but this is a nice mix of casual and quick, still with high quality food!

  • Sherry G.

Was hoping for a good burger, instead I got a great burger! I ordered the Classic Bacon Cheeseburger, it was cooked to perfection, juicy, and flavorful. The pickles! Who knew that the pickle could make a difference? First there was more than two and they delivered that crunch of texture that made each bite perfection! Ordered the sea salt French Fries, they were good although not nearly as hot as they should have been. The thinly cut fries were especially crisp, with just enough of the soft potato inside. All and all a great experience!
